LD Seating | Craftsmanship, Technology and Innovation in Seating

The Boskovice-based brand LD Seating is a family-owned business founded more than thirty years ago. At that time, Jitka Hurábová laid the foundations for producing office furniture, a tradition the brand has remained true to ever since. From a local manufacturer, LD Seating gradually grew into one of the most prominent companies producing premium seating. The brand has earned respect not only for its high-quality and sustainable products but also through collaborations with renowned designers such as Andreas Krob, Martin Ballendat, and the duo Orlandini Design. Its portfolio includes dozens of chairs that are no longer intended solely for office spaces. In its Boskovice production halls, the company also manufactures meeting and conference chairs, upholstered lounge armchairs, modular seating, and bar stools. A wide range of options, variety in materials and colors, and—above all—a professional and human approach are the main strengths of LD Seating.

– What can your brand specifically offer architects?
A personal approach. We are a family-owned company, with family members directly involved in the management. Architects can therefore contact someone from the company’s leadership at any time. We have showrooms in Boskovice and Prague, as well as a sales team operating throughout the Czech Republic. If architects require any form of service—bringing a chair for sampling, fabric swatches, and so on—we are always available. We also provide all 3D model formats for download and an online configurator for all our products.

– Which of your products do you believe every architect should know?
The Flexi Lounge armchair, which received the Red Dot Design Award 2025 in the Product Design category.

– Which project or realization featuring your products are you particularly proud of?
Personally, I am very pleased with the furnishing of IKEM Hospital, specifically the cardiac surgery waiting area. We installed a large Nido seating configuration upholstered in leather, with a Preciosa installation above it. It is a beautiful space. I also appreciate the realization for Škoda in their new building, where we supplied seating for all meeting rooms.

– How would you define your position on the market? What makes your product distinctive and specific?
We differentiate ourselves primarily through the quality of stitching and upholstery, as well as the quality of our polyurethane foams. We produce our own foams, in cooperation with a supplier from Italy who also supplies Vitra, Sedus, and other major market players. In terms of the chair core—the internal structure—we are truly on the same level as these companies. Stitching and upholstery have always been our DNA; our entire growth and success are built on this foundation. Everything is manufactured in-house in Boskovice, and all components sourced from suppliers come exclusively from within the EU.

– Do you collaborate with architects on bespoke production? Is it possible to modify shape, colour, and materials?
Yes, we see great value in collaboration with architects and designers. Proof of this lies in the various design awards received by models from our product series. We are also able to work on bespoke production or modifications of existing ranges or models. We can test and upholster seating in atypical fabrics and colours, use alternative materials for accessories, adapt bases and their surface finishes, modify different types of mechanisms, and more.

– Which architectural studio is among your favourites?
All studios that create beautiful interiors, collaborate with high-quality suppliers, and furnish spaces with LD Seating products.

– What is currently your bestseller?
From a general perspective, relying on a single bestseller is not particularly effective, as it creates excessive dependence on one product and does not support long-term planning. However, we can mention favoured items, some of which have been popular for many years. In lounge seating, these include Flexi, Sky, Lotus, Riva, Melody, and Wave. Among conference and meeting chairs, Oslo, Sunrise, Trend, and Dream stand out. In task seating, Leaf, Lyra, Look, and Stream are the most successful.

– Do you prefer smaller, more intimate commissions or large-scale projects?
Every commission is unique, and we are grateful for all orders. That said, when it comes to a chair or armchair whose production engages all LD Seating manufacturing departments—including upholstery, foam moulding, metalwork, and base coating—the level of satisfaction is naturally the highest.

– Is there currently any limit in your work that you would like to break through?
We are at a stage where the major investments in production, halls, and technologies are behind us. We are now investing in new products, the brand, and sales. We believe we have everything needed for further growth—and we are growing—but we would like to grow more. Our ambition is therefore greater expansion.

– Which architect would you like to approach to design a product for you?
An architect—or perhaps rather a designer? Product development has so far been carried out mainly with designers, but we would very much like to begin collaborating with architects as well. After all, they are the ones who specify products in projects on a daily basis and know what works on the market—and what is missing.

– How does LD Seating integrate principles of sustainability into production? Which product is key in this respect?
We place strong emphasis on durability and long product life to conserve resources and energy. Within our sustainable practices, confirmed by EMAS certification, we prioritise the use of recycled and natural materials, including fabrics certified with EU Ecolabel and Cradle to Cradle. We use innovative upholstery technologies that eliminate the need to glue fabric to foam, making our products easy and cost-effective to reupholster. To achieve energy self-sufficiency, we have installed photovoltaic panels and are moving towards zero-waste production—using leftover fabrics to produce gift items and foam offcuts to make children’s blocks. For example, the wood used to manufacture the shells of the Lotus chair comes from sustainably managed forests certified by FSC®.

– Where would you place yourselves in an international context? Which foreign brands are alternatives to LD Seating?
I like to compare us to Brunner. We are certainly still one step behind them—they have been on the market twice as long as we have. However, LD Seating is unique: a family-owned company whose development in terms of size, turnover, manufacturing independence, and technological advancement continues to grow—and this is something we intend to preserve.
